The Savannah College of Art and Design, SCAD for short, made a major announcement a few days ago stating that they would be opening their second fashion museum. Fresh off their ranking as one of the best fashion schools in the world the opening of the second SCADfash museum in Atlanta will only reinforce their program. In a statement from SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace. “This museum focuses on the past, present and future of fashion design, connecting conceptual to historical principles of dress, whether ceremonial, celebratory or casual, and welcomes visitors of all ages to engage with cutting-edge exhibitions, educationally enriching events, films and forums, guided by curricula for K-12 students and resources for graduate scholars/”
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution the new SCADfash Museum will be opening October 3 in Atlanta. The inaugural exhibition “Oscar de la Renta,” will highlight designs from the renowned fashion icon, RIP. The exhibition will showcase de la Renta’s designs from the mid-1960s to the present and feature gowns worn by Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey and Laura Bush. There will also be an exhibit paying homage to musician and Atlanta native Andre Benjamin titled “I feel ya: SCAD + Andre 3000 Benjamin”.
