Good afternoon, HFL readers! With the new year right around the corner, we are anticipating many new trends to be established by the big wigs in the year to come. But before we progress into 2016, I think its only right to reflect on the designers and personalities who made their mark on the top trends of 2015. Below is HFL’s countdown of whom we believe had a large impact on this years trending fashions, and how we think they will impact looks for the coming year. Let us know what you think of our top picks, and who you believe makes the list!
10. The Naked Dress
This years Met Gala was covered in embellishments… literally. The ‘naked dress’ was a definite crowd pleaser showing a whole lot of skin, yet, covering all the right spots. Who better to carry out this scandalous trend then Queen B? The R&B artist had nearly everyone talking about her stunning look, starting a trend of ‘naked dresses’ that took the world by storm. Reality star, Kim Kardashian, was also spotted at the Met Ball rocking the look. Way to make a statement!
9. Yeezy Boost 350
Although the artist didn’t drop his new album this year as we had anticipated, Kanye West did release his shoe, the Yeezy boost 350, bringing Adidas a whole lot of attention. West, who was recently named GQ’s most stylish man of 2015, also managed to spark a lot of controversy over his latest line, Yeezy Season 2, but even so, the artist inevitably started a heap of new trends. (Check out our original recap on the Yeezy Season 2.)
8. Puff ball Keychain
To many, the trend seemed ridiculous, but after the puff ball keychain made its debut on the runway, celebrities took to the trend and immediately started a trickle down effect all the way to the streets selling out of stores in minutes. And yes, I too had to get my hands on this trend…
7. Tuxedo Jacket for Women
2015 proved that gender no longer exists in the world of fashion especially when it came to runway. It took a while for this look to become a trend, but 2015 broke down the gender barriers by making menswear for women a popular fashion statement. This look was carried out by R&B singers, Rihanna and Ciara who added their own sex appeal to what was once a look worn strictly by men.
If you weren’t wearing fringe in 2015, you were playing the trend game all wrong. From boots and handbags, to skirts, tops, and dresses; fringe was all the rage! And hey, if Gigi and Blake were rocking the look, we wanted to rock it too.
5. Embellished Headpiece
Whether you were getting down at Coachella, or attending a Gatsby ball, you were probably rocking the headpiece trend that made ‘headway’ in 2015. The importance of accessorizing this year made it clear that relying on clothing was not enough to make a bold statement, that is, with the exception of our previous trend, the ‘naked dress.’ Between accessory layering and embellished headpieces, 2015 was full of glam.
4. Torn Jeans
Yes, it looks like we scale walls for a living, and no, we don’t care. Torn jeans made effortless, chic. Who knew?
The infamous Tims… Although the trend began to gain popularity in 2014, they hit their peak in 2015 and were seen all over the streets. They recently gained more attention in rap artist, Drake’s music video, “Hotline Bling” breaking the internet and keeping the trend alive correspondingly.
2. Open-toed Booties
Never would we imagine open-toed boots would gain so much popularity, but we’re definitely not hating it! The trend definitely differentiates itself from past trends which overall makes for one of the most innovative trends of the year 2015.
- Bomber Jackets
To finish off our countdown, our final 2015 trend pick is the bomber jacket. This trend was one of the most transitional pieces in our closets also making gender specified garments a myth. Whether you were going out for a night on the town, or a casual lunch date, the bomber jacket was never the wrong answer.
