Savannah College of Art & Design (famously known as SCAD) is featuring “Grand Divertissement à Versailles, Vintage Photographs by Bill Cunningham” which is being held at the school’s fashion and film museum, SCAD FASH. The exhibition is featuring images that haven’t been shown publicly by the New York Times photographer, Bill Cunningham. “The Battle of Versailles saw the five best French designers of the time (Marc Bohan of Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, Hubert de Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and Emanuel Ungaro) present collections beside five best American designers (Bill Blass, Stephen Burrows, Halston, Anne Klein and Oscar de la Renta) to raise funds for the restoration of King Louis XIV’s palace in Versailles, France.” The exhibition will show Bill’s work from this 1973 fashion show and celebrate his contribution to fashion. It includes 65 historic images, alongside an original program. The exhibition is a lovely remembrance of Bill and all his admirable work that will be looked at for generations to come.
This exhibition is curated by Alexandra Sachs, executive director of SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film and Atlanta exhibitions.
